The musical tradition of the universal Church is a treasure of inestimable value and forms an integral part of Liturgy. At St. Paul Parish, Music Ministry brings to us the heavenly beauty of song, inviting all to join in. With opportunities for children, teens, and adults, our music ministries offer parishioners of all ages a place to share their gifts and participate more deeply in the prayer and worship of our community.
Liturgical music is not performance but prayer. Music that sets the liturgical texts of the Mass points to Jesus in the Eucharist, inviting both participation and contemplation. Our parish's liturgical musicians help to lead the congregation in sung praise, providing consistent tempo and intonation, so that all may join in the Psalmist’s instruction to “make a joyful noise to the Lord, [...] worship the Lord with gladness [and] come into his presence with singing (Psalm 100:1-2).”

The Adult Choir welcomes all adults of the parish as well as high school upperclassmen. The choir is always looking for new members of all voice parts who not only sing, but also enjoy the camaraderie and fun. Musicians learn not only the hymns and acclamations sung by the congregation, but also meditative post-Communion pieces with multiple voice part harmonies. Rehearsals are held Thursday evenings at 7:30pm in the choir loft from September through June. The choir sings mostly at the 10:00am or 11:30am Sunday Masses from September through June. The choir also sings at special Masses such as: ParishFest in September, Lessons and Carols during Advent, Christmas Eve, Holy Week/Triduum (Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil), and other selected liturgical events.

Cantors invite the congregation and choirs to sing during each weekend and Holy Day Liturgy, including announcing hymns, proclaiming the Psalm from the ambo, and intoning call and response chants where appropriate. Knowledge of Catholic liturgical music and the Mass, the ability to read music and to sing on pitch are required. Potential cantors should contact the director of music ministry for an interview and audition.

The St. Paul Parish Children’s Choir consists of children in grades three through eight from St. Paul School, from local public and private schools, and homeschoolers. The choir practices during the academic year; please see their page for the most up-to-date location, day, and time. The choir sings monthly at 10:00am Mass and also serves the church by singing for other Masses and events as called upon.

The St. Paul Teen Music Ministry consists of teens in grades 8 through 12 from St. Paul School, from local public and private schools, and homeschoolers. Teen Music Ministry sings once a month on alternating Saturday and Sunday evening Masses, and meets an hour before Mass in the music room beforehand to go over the music for the Mass. Yes, this happens once a month, and there are no extra practices. That’s all there is to it!

Bell Choirs have been a part of the church’s worship for hundreds of years and are a beautiful addition to the music liturgy. In bell choirs, each small bell is hand-held and is tuned to play a particular note. (You can hold and play up to four bells at a time.) The hand bells are rung to the same tune as the music and thus accompany it. So, if you can’t sing, but love music – particularly if you can read music – a bell choir may just be your cup of tea! The Adult Handbell Choir welcomes all adults of the parish as well as high school upperclassmen. Rehearsals take place every Thursday at 6:30pm in the choir loft from October through June.

The Contemporary Ensemble sings both traditional and more contemporary hymns and songs at Mass, using guitars, keyboards, flutes, and mandolins for accompaniment. The Ensemble can find a place for any level of mastery of instrument or voice and encourages teens, adults, and the young–at–heart to join them. The Contemporary Ensemble accompanies the cantor and congregation in liturgical worship one Saturday Liturgy per month. Rehearsals are held one hour before the 5:30pm Mass in the choir loft.
