What is the Eucharistic Revival? It is a movement of Catholics across the United States to be healed, converted, formed, and unified by an encounter with Jesus in the Eucharist—and sent out in mission “for the life of the world.” The National Eucharistic Revival and National Eucharistic Congress are a direct response to the Holy Father’s call for a “pastoral and missionary conversion which cannot leave things as they presently are” so that the Church in the United States might be “permanently in a state of mission” (Evangelii Gaudium, n. 25).

The date of the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord has been moved this year from May 21 to May 24 in the five (arch)dioceses across New Jersey.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and its Committee on Pro-Life Activities have encouraged the Dioceses of the United States to join in fasting and prayer for a renewed national commitment to the sacredness of all human life from conception through natural death this coming Friday, May 13, the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima. As Bishop of the Diocese of Trenton, I invite the clergy, religious, and faithful of the Diocese to pray the rosary this Friday, May 13, for this intention. Our Lady of Fatima, pray for us!

Young men who want to learn more about discerning a vocation to the priesthood are invited to a special event with Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., June 16 located at St. John the Baptist Church, Allentown. The event will begin with Mass celebrated by the Bishop at 5:30 p.m. in the church to which all are welcome to come and pray for an increase of vocations to the priesthood. Following Mass, a barbecue, featuring games, activities and discussions, will be held on church grounds for those interested in discernment. The gathering is being organized by the Diocesan Department of Vocations to provide an opportunity to connect those who may be discerning a call to the priesthood. Registration for the barbecue is required. St. John the Baptist Church is located at 1282 Yardville-Allentown Road, Allentown. Many thanks to all of the members of our Hispanic community who attended Listening Sessions faciliated in Spanish for the Synod process. Sessions will begin in English on March 19.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ, If someone asked you "What does love have to do with it?" what would you say? Perhaps you would think of special people in your life -- family, friend or a child or grandchild -- or perhaps you reflect on a personal moment that you witnessed or experienced. As I thought about this question, “What does love have to do with it,” I immediately said, “everything!” As we look around at the many challenges we are faced with today, we need more of God’s love in everything we do. St. John said, "Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love." (1 John 4:8)

Thank you to all who generously donated new or used coats for the coat drive organized by St. Paul Pastoral Council with the support of the Knights of Columbus and St. Paul School. Over 250 coats were collected on and leading up to January 23. This was a wonderful response to the coat drive and truly supported those in our community who are in need.

On Monday, January 10, it was announced that Princeton Mayor Mark Freda has issued a State of Emergency Declaration mandating mask use in all public spaces.

On April 24, 2021, Pope Francis announced the convocation of the Sixteenth Ordinary Synod with the theme “For A Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission,” in a sense, “a Synod on synodality.” In brief, the Synod is an effort by the Church to reach out to all members to gather their thoughts on how the Church can best serve the world in the present time. Unlike the Second Vatican Council - which gathered the world's bishops to collect their input and then provide direction to the laity - the Synod is a bottom-up approach, asking the bishops to listen to their congregations and to develop policies based on that input. Together, the Holy Father and our own Bishop O’Connell hope to get input from the broadest cross section of people possible.
